VHS and camcorder video tape transfer service in London — tapes ready for digitising

Convert & transfer VHS to DVD

Your tapes are played on maintained professional decks with time base correction, so the picture is as stable and clean as the original recording allows. All transfers are completed in-house in London. Nothing is outsourced, so your tapes stay in our care throughout the entire transfer process.

We do not film tapes off a screen or speed them up. Each tape is captured in real time, checked for dropouts and sound faults, and returned to you with your digital copies.

  • VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, DV, DVCAM, HDV
  • Betamax, U-matic and professional formats also transferred
  • NTSC, PAL and SECAM tapes all handled
  • Delivered as MP4 or ProRes files, on USB, hard drive or DVD

How it works

1. Tell us what you have - the formats and rough quantity. A photo of the pile is perfect.

2. We confirm the price and turnaround before any work starts. Mixed collections are usually cheaper per tape than the list price.

3. You can drop your tapes off with us in London by arrangement, or send them by post from anywhere in the UK. We recommend insured post for anything irreplaceable.

4. We transfer, check and label everything, then send your originals back with your files or discs.

What you get back

Most people choose MP4 files on a USB stick because they play on almost everything - TV, phone, tablet, computer. We can also supply ProRes masters if you plan to edit, chaptered DVDs if you want a disc you can post to relatives, or files on a hard drive for large collections.

Files are named and dated from your tape labels where possible, so a box of thirty tapes does not come back as a confusing list of numbers.

How long does it take?

A small batch of five to ten tapes is usually ready within 10 working days. Larger collections of twenty to fifty tapes take approx two weeks. If you have a deadline - a birthday, anniversary or funeral - tell us and we will do our best to meet it. Alternatively, we offer a FAST TRACK service to transfers tapes within a few days.  Ask us about this service

Call 0207 430 1811 or email CopyMyTapes@gmail.com and we will confirm the format, the price and the turnaround before any work starts.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to transfer a video tape?
Video tapes start at £15 each. The price depends on the format and running time, and mixed collections almost always work out cheaper per tape than the list price. Send a photo of what you have and we will quote exactly before any work starts.
What video tape formats can you transfer?
We transfer VHS, S-VHS, VHS-C, S-VHS-C, Video8, Hi8, Digital8, MiniDV, DV, DVCAM, HDV, Betamax and U-matic. NTSC, PAL and SECAM tapes are all handled.
Can you fix damaged or mouldy tapes?
Yes. Snapped, chewed, jammed and mould-affected tapes are repaired and re-shelled by hand before transfer. If nothing can be recovered, there is nothing to pay.
Do I get my original tapes back?
Always. Your original tapes are returned with your digital copies. We do not keep them unless you specifically ask us to dispose of them.
How do I receive the digital files?
Most customers receive MP4 files sent on email with a download link or on a USB stick. We can also supply ProRes files, DVDs, hard drives, or send smaller jobs via WeTransfer.
